Magistrate Mitzi Pollard

Magistrate Judge Mitzi H. Pollard earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from North Carolina Central University in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2001. Before entering the legal profession, she worked as an engineer and computer programmer, bringing a unique problem-solving perspective to her later work as an attorney and judge.
After passing the Tennessee Bar, Judge Pollard launched her legal career as a sole practitioner, serving clients for more than twelve years. Her practice spanned dependency and neglect, termination of parental rights, delinquency, child support, mediation, and truancy matters. Her deep knowledge of juvenile law, coupled with her professionalism and zealous advocacy, led to her appointment as a Magistrate Judge of the Memphis and Shelby County Juvenile Court by the Honorable Judge Dan Michael in February 2015. In September 2022, the Honorable Judge Tarik Sugarmon reappointed her to continue serving under his administration.
As a Magistrate Judge, Pollard has presided over the truancy docket, a jurisdiction often referred to as the “gateway to delinquency.” She has embraced this role, partnering with social services, community agencies, and the District Attorney’s Office to stress the importance of education as a cornerstone for addressing issues such as poverty, family violence, and other adverse childhood experiences.
On a personal note, Judge Pollard is married to Mr. Brian K. Pollard. Together they share four adult children and three grandsons. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending quality time with family and close friends.
